At around 1:20 p.m. on June 15, a new STS (ship-to-shore) crane toppled while being transported to a non-operational berth at Singapore’s Tuas Port, according to a joint statement issued by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and PSA.

The statement confirmed that there were no injuries or fatalities. The extent of damage to the crane has not yet been disclosed.

"Preliminary assessments indicate that adjacent port equipment and infrastructure were not affected. All currently operational berths at PSA Singapore remain fully functional, and all port operations and development works continue as normal," MPA added.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. PSA and MPA are working with the relevant authorities to determine the circumstances, and further updates are expected.

Tuas Port, which opened three berths in September 2022, is Singapore’s largest fully automated container terminal. PSA plans to relocate all container handling operations from its other terminals to Tuas Port, which is being developed in phases to expand capacity and accommodate larger vessels.

Once fully completed in the 2040s, Tuas Port is expected to become the world’s largest automated container terminal, with an annual handling capacity of 65 million TEUs.
