Maersk recently announced on its official website that major infrastructure works will soon affect the national railway network serving the ports of Genoa, La Spezia, and Vado Ligure.
Below is a summary of the latest developments:
· Port of Genoa
Full Rail Closure: Rail services to and from the Port of Genoa will be completely suspended during the works.
Period: August 2 to August 31
Affected Area: All rail transportation in and out of Genoa
Reason: Infrastructure upgrades related to the Terzo Valico project and improvements to the Genoa rail hub
Starting July 21, Genoa will stop accepting rail cargo.
· Port of Vado Ligure / Port of La Spezia
Rail services to and from Vado Ligure and La Spezia will remain operational from June to September. However, trains may experience rerouting, limitations, delays, or cancellations.
During this period, Maersk will continue to offer round-trip and one-way trucking services to minimize disruption.
Due to longer transit distances and the need for additional resources to maintain service continuity, Maersk will implement a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for all inland rail transport on the network—regardless of whether a specific route is directly affected. Details are as follows:
PCD = Price Calculation Date. For non-FMC shipments, PCD refers to the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of non-spot booking confirmation. For FMC shipments, PCD refers to the latest container gate-in date for non-spot bookings.
