The latest aerial photos provided by the U.S. Coast Guard show that a fire has swept through the multi-level car decks of the Morning Midas, with signs of heat damage most evident at the bow.
Large areas of darkened hull paint indicate where the fire was most intense. On the port bow, heat damage can be seen from the waterline all the way up to the top deck.
The first rescue personnel have already arrived at the scene. As of midday Monday, wind speeds had increased to 45–50 knots, although the seas remained relatively calm. It is reported that the Morning Midas continues to drift in a northeasterly direction.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 3, a fire broke out aboard the car carrier Morning Midas.
